Is a size 148 snowboard too short for a 5'8 150lb newb lad like myself?

Different sized snowboards are for different riders. A 156cm would be good for a freeride board for someone your size. If you like to do tricks, a 148 is about the right size (spread the bindings farther apart). So, if you are a park rider, a 148cm snowboard is fine.
