Immersion heater on or off?

4 years ago an immersion heater was put in our loft to supply two showers only. The rest of our hot water is via a combi boiler. Being farely new it is in good condition and well lagged. The big question is do we get a timer fitted just to heat the water twice a day for showers or leave it on 24/7? By the way I live in GB
