I am trying to install Switched On Schoolhouse on a computer a friend gave me and?

when it gets to installing the server it stops and says there is a fatal error. I know that it isn't the software b/c I installed it on my computer just fine. Does anyone know what I can try? I don't really know alot about computers, i'm not totally illiterate but would love some help. lol Thank you
